And More Traveling…

The Eagle Rodeo on June 9 & 10 was quite a success. After the rodeo Friday night it was a quick trip to Pocatello for the Idaho High School Rodeo Queen Contest! It brought back many memories of my experience in high school rodeo and I was excited to watch the girls compete. After the speech competition it was back in the car to Boise to pack for Nebraska. I headed to Nebraska with 4 hours of sleep in the last couple of days and excited to see girls I hadn’t seen in awhile! I was greeted by a sign outside my host home and was convinced I was the only one that got a sign. I figured my host home really liked the state of Idaho. Come to find out all the state queens had a sign outside their host homes. I had a fantastic time in Nebraska and they kept us busy with autograph signings, local tours, including the Union Pacific Railroad’s largest switch yard, and social activities to get to know the Miss Rodeo Nebraska 2012 contestants. Without any stops in Idaho I am now headed to Reno, Nevada!

My Recent Travels

Where has all the time gone! The last couple of months I have helped with the Idaho
Winter Special Olympics in McCall, Idaho. I also spent a week in Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Dodge National Circuit Finals
Rodeo. I have missed very few DNCFRs in my life as it used to be in my hometown
of Pocatello, Idaho. The production was stunning and I watched Idaho cowboys such
as Matt Shiozawa compete for the superior titles.

My pride swelled to an all time high as I made my way from Oklahoma City to
Pocatello Idaho. This was the first year of what is now known as a stop on the
Wrangler Million Dollar Silver Tour and the Western Frontier Pro Rodeo! I was
extremely honored to present the American flag at each of the rodeo performances.

My next stop was in Bakersfield, California. I had the privilege to act as a judge
for the Bakersfield Stampede’s queen contest and learned what it is like to be on
the other side of the score sheets! This trip was full of adventures but the most
memorable was a forty-five minute helicopter ride over their amazing city. I was
able to get a sneak peek of Merle Haggard’s swimming pool at his past residence,
with a guitar at the bottom.

The last couple of weeks have been full of elementary school visits, making
appearances at sponsor events, and getting ready for the extreme Idaho rodeo
season. I can’t wait to kick off the next couple of months with great weather and
amazing experiences to come!

The Beginning . . .

Wow, I can’t believe February is almost gone! I have definitely started this year by hitting the ground running. December 11, 2010 was the day I officially became Miss Rodeo Idaho. Since then, I have made appearances at Caldwell’s New Years Eve Bulls and Broncs; the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo in Denver, Colorado; the Black Hills Rodeo in Rapid City, South Dakota; The Lions Mid Year Convention in Meridian, Idaho, and the Silver Spurs Rodeo in Kissimmee, Florida.

In between all these events, the Miss Rodeo Idaho Board, my family and I hosted two very successful coronation fundraising events. Thank you to all those who contributed to the success of these events and helped me kick my year off in style!

I am so grateful for the opportunity to represent such an amazing state and the great sport of rodeo!

National Western Stock Show & Rodeo - Denver, CO

While sitting amongst the crowd at the Denver stock show rodeo during grand entry that it hit me; I am representing the wildest, most passionate, greatest sport on earth! I got goose-bumps watching the fireworks and laser show that kicked off the rodeo. My thanks to Cervi Rodeo who supplied the stock horses the Queens rode during the event. Those horses knew their jobs and did them well - in the gate, fast lap around the arena, back out of the gate.

A highlight for me was when I received the high honor of presenting the Canadian flag during the grand entry. Only 3 girls, each performance received this amazing opportunity. The week was full of rodeos, shopping, autographs and fun.

What a great place to go for my first out-of-state appearance as Miss Rodeo Idaho!

Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo - Rapid City, SD

South Dakota’s weather was colder than I have ever experienced before. When the plane landed it was -17 degrees with a wind chill of -44. We began the week with school visits where we promoted the rodeo and met a lot of energetic kids!

While in Rapid City I celebrated my 23 birthday with a wonderful Chocolate Thunder dessert from the Outback Steakhouse. Sutton Rodeo provided the queen’s horses and each day before the rodeo we walked around the expo encouraging people to come out to the rodeo.

The state queens were invited to many “meet and greets” and a post rodeo “Red Room” event where we had the opportunity to meet the contestants from that days performances. A tour of Landstroms Black Hills Gold Jewelry Manufactures left me in awe. I could not believe how much work is put into the making of just one piece of jewelry. It makes me appreciate the jewelry I have all the more!

Rounding up the trip was a breathtaking visit to Mount Rushmore.

Lions Convention - Meridian, ID

The title I brought to Miss Rodeo Idaho is the Meridian Lions Sr. Queen. In was my honor to be asked to attend the Lions Mid Year Convention at the Marriott Courtyard in Meridian. The first night of the event Melissa, Tevis, (my Meridian Lions Teen and PeeWee Queens) and I experienced food from all around the world and was given the chance to present the awards for the best international experience.

The next day we were the guest speakers at lunch. Melissa kicked us off with a slide show on all the fun activities we have done this year. I went second, and described how important community service is in my life and gave an example of a competition speech. Tevis rounded out the event with a poem. Lauren Johnson, Miss Teen Rodeo Idaho also joined us as a guest. All the girls did a fantastic job!

Silver Spurs Rodeo - Kissimmee, FL

Florida was a big warm treat after all the cold weather. I stayed with Sammy Roberts and her family, who were amazing! I was very surprised to find palm trees in their pasture.

We visited numerous elementary schools, went hog hunting, and air boat riding. I got to hold a baby alligator or “gator” and even got a little sunburn from our day on the beach.

After all than fun, it was time to get to work at the rodeo! Many generous people from the community provided the Queens horses to ride. The Haddocks brought Paco for me. Paco was a short little dun and we got along great. The Queens participated in 3 rodeos and a special kids rodeo.

The week was amazing and has provided me with enough memories to last a lifetime.
